What is Geotextile?

“Geotextile” can be separated into two terms, “geo” and “textile”. The word “geo” comes from the Greek meaning “earth”, so geotextiles can be defined as the permeable textile materials that are used in combination with soil or any other civil engineering material.

AKO NONWOVENS GeoTextiles are made of: . polyester . polypropylene

polyester + polypropylene

(combination of materials varies based on the order)

Since polypropylene geotextiles perform well when exposed to water and other inorganic compounds, they are for uses such as pond liners, bank weed control, liners for garden fountain systems, filtration, dividers in ponds, pile wraps, lagoon liners, turbidity curtains, or as in this case, and an artificial habitat.

Functions

Geo Textile

Separation
For separation the fabric is
laid between two layers of different
materials, such as two different soil
types, or new construction and soil, or
new and old pavement.

Geo Textile

Stabilization
In stabilization, the fabric is
applied on top of a material that is
highly compressible. Most often, this
material is wet, soft soil. Here, the
geotextile allows water to seep from
the soft soil to draining materials. As
a result, it consolidate the basement
layer, thus strengthening it and making
it a more trustworthy base.

Reinforcement
In reinforcement, the geotextile
or mesh act as a source of strength
instead of strengthening the bottom layer
like in stabilization. Using geotextile
as
reinforcement is usually in the following areas .

• Sleep slopes: allows the building of
steeper slopes as well as save the needed
land surface and seal material.
• Retaining walls: in this application, the retaining walls with geotextile materials accommodate settlements much effective than traditional construction materials.
• Control water erosion of bay shores, sea embankments.

Geo Textile

Moisture Barrier
Functioning as moisture barrier, the geotextile is placed to block water rather than allowing water to pass through. This is accomplished by applying an asphaltic suspension. as a result, the fabric becomes impermeable and suitable for use in construction projects such as pavement rehabilitation
